Frequently asked questions

Attending classes or workshops

I have never done any exercise/ have poor mobility/ feel self-conscious, is there a class for me?

Yes! Absolutely! Our students range from babies to octogenarians, they come in all shapes and sizes and all levels of ability. If you have any concerns about getting started, give our friendly reception team a call for some confidential advice. They will help you decide what is best for you, explain how things work and get you booked in.

What do I need to bring to class?

We can provide all the equipment you need. If you have your own mat for yoga classes bring it along, if not you can hire or buy one at reception. We recommend bringing along a water bottle for after the class

What should I wear to class?

Be comfortable, you need to be able to move freely if you love Lycra that’s fine with us but a tee-shirt and leggings or shorts work too. All classes are taken barefoot, there is a rack outside the room to leave your shoes on. (And lockers in the changing room should you need one.)

Do you have parking?

We have a small car park in front with limited spaces but behind our building there is ample road parking and a walkway from the road along the side of the building to the front door. After 6pm there is plenty of parking in front of the building using the spaces allocated to the offices opposite.

How do I book a class/ workshop/ course?

Booking can be done via our website (see the classes or workshops page), via our ‘mindbody’ app, by calling us on 01284 769090 or by speaking to one of our receptionist when you are here.

Payment and Membership questions

Do I have to be a member or can I pay as I go?

We are all about flexibility, so you can choose whether a membership or pay-as-you-go option is better for you. All the options are listed here – {link to prices page} Many new students start with the introductory pass which gives unlimited classes for the first month, which should give a good idea of which teachers and styles of class will suit you. If you need help choosing the best option give reception a call and they will go through it with you.

Can I share my 10 or 20 class card with someone else or use them to pay for workshops?

Yes, you can. 10 and 20 class cards can be shared with as many people as you wish. They will be able to book classes themselves and your card will be assigned as payment. This is helpful for couples or family members who wish to attend class together. You will need to remember to book a space each in class.

You can also use 2 of your card sessions against any £20 or £25 workshop. If you book online the computer will do this for you automatically

Can I use my membership to pay for workshops?

No unfortunately not, but as a member you do get a discount off the workshop price. Bronze and Silver members receive 5% off and gold members receive 10% off.

How do I cancel my class/workshop/membership?

You can cancel class and workshop bookings online, over the phone or in person. Please be aware you will not automatically be refunded. If you have a membership or class card the session will be added back to those. If you paid for an individual session the amount will be left on your Self Centre account as a credit to use next time until a refund is requested. Refunds must be processed in the same way they were made. For example, we cannot return cash for a card payment. Our cancellation policy is 8 hours for classes and 24 hours for workshops and 2 weeks for courses.

Memberships must be cancelled in writing to the centre manager, giving one months’ notice from the last payment date. Please email – gemma@the-self-centre.co.uk

I want to upgrade/downgrade my membership, what do I do?

To up or downgrade your membership you need to contact the centre manager, Gemma Ginns, who will arrange for the new membership to commence at the end of the current paid up month. Please email gemma@the-self-centre.co.uk

I am going on holiday, can I pause my membership?

All members are entitled to a total of four weeks holiday break throughout the year. This can be taken in one block or smaller chunks. To action this please contact the centre manager, Gemma Ginns by email gemma@the-self-centre.co.uk

I am on a membership and can’t book into next month’s classes, what should I do?

You can only book classes online within the current paid membership. If you wish to reserve classes in the following month, please contact reception who will be happy to do this for you. These classes will be marked as paid automatically when the next payment is made.
