ayurvedic massage - Mark Careless
Ayurveda is the ancient Indian holistic medical system, based on achieving physical and mental harmony with nature, which has been practised for more than 5,000 years. It is a holistic health system comprising diet, Yoga, massage, detoxification, herbal remedies, meditation and daily lifestyle. Ayurveda improves not only a person’s health, but also their well-being, behaviour and state of mind.
Ayurvedic medicine is founded on the concept of tridosha – the three somatic humours. These are known as vatta, pitta and kapha. In a state of equilibrium they maintain and control the physiological functions and biochemical processes of the body. A person’s dosha determines the kind of lifestyle that is balancing and healthy for them, including the sorts of food they should eat and the amount and type of exercise they should do. Ayurveda treatments are personalised to suit the individual’s dosha, and use oils, movements and techniques chosen especially for you, your body and your skin type.
Ayurveda is prevention-oriented, free from harmful side-effects and treats the root cause of a disease rather than just the symptoms. Ayurveda views illness as caused by an imbalance in a person’s physical or mental constitution and therefore seeks to work gently to bring a person’s body and mind back into a healthy balance.
Benefits of therapy
Ayurveda is designed to prevent disorders in the long term rather than waiting for problems to manifest themselves. It is the ideal way for healthy individuals to maintain good health and general well-being.
In addition, Ayurvedic treatments can be extremely effective when used to treat a wide range of conditions, including backache, headaches, migraines, sleep ailments and tiredness, sinusitis, muscle and joint pain, stress and tension.
Ayurvedic face massage promotes regeneration of skin tissue and improves muscle tone by helping your skin to retain its natural moisture. It is a natural way to healthy, younger-looking skin.
This is a deeply relaxing, indulgent treatment which involves a steady stream of warm oil being gently poured in a rhythmical movement over the central Chakra point on the forehead. It increases the blood circulation in the brain, promoting improved brain function, and nourishes the hair and scalp.
Shirodhara can be booked as an optional extra to add an exquisite finishing touch to one of my Ayurvedic body or face massages.
