sports & remedial massage therapy - Paul Groombridge
Brought to East Anglia during a 30 year career in HM Forces, I have developed an exceptional understanding of a broad range of sports and physical activities underpinned by an active lifestyle. However my primary sporting interest is as a competitive runner and I have participated in the sport in all its guises including marathons, orienteering and East of England cross country league events. I also have a passion for most types of adventure sports and have held instructor qualifications in climbing, as a mountain leader and trail/mountain biking.
In April 2013 I completed the MARATHON DES SABLES which is recognised as the toughest footrace on earth. Known simply as the MdS, the race is a gruelling six-day ultra-marathon through a formidable landscape in one of the worlds most inhospitable climates - the Sahara desert. The distance, around 152 miles, is the equivalent of approximately 6 marathons which is completed over 6 days and is broken down into stages with the longest being around 82 Km (50 miles). To increase the difficulty, you are required to be self sufficient and carry all of your equipment and food on your back for the duration of the MdS and water is rationed throughout the event. The MdS is a unique event and you can find out more information about it on the MdS website.
During my spare time I work as a volunteer with the East of England Ambulance Service responding to medical emergencies throughout Norfolk and Suffolk which has provided me a well-rounded approach to patient care along with first-hand experience dealing with most types of medical emergencies. Additionally, I have provided medical support to the youth side of Diss Rugby Union FC for a number of years.
Having suffered the frustration of injury myself, I decided to train as a Sport and Remedial Massage Practitioner in order to assist people with similar injuries sustained during sport or occupational activities. I trained and qualified as a Therapist under the tutelage of leading practitioner and author Mel Cash at the renowned London School of Sports Massage (LSSM) based in Regents College gaining a BTEC level 5 Diploma, the highest qualification that can be attained within the field of Sport and Remedial Massage therapy.
I am also a member of the Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage (ISRM). The ISRM provides a national register of fully qualified and insured therapists that ensures clients receive a high standard of treatment from practitioners that have been professionally trained and continue to maintain their skills through continual professional development (CPD).
Having been an active sportsman throughout my life, I absolutely understand the importance of sport (both psychologically and physiologically) to the individual and am committed to the prevention of injury and where injury has occurred, the effective treatment leading to a safe return to sport or occupation.
