I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties using psychological models tailored specifically to individuals and families. DrGeorginaHartley resized

I work collaboratively with young people, adults and families to help them understand their emotional difficulties in a meaningful way, and to identify agreed goals that they are motivated to work towards.

I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society. I have worked across a number of NHS and charitable services in the region.

 Specific Conditions Treatable:

Many of us experience difficulties with emotional wellbeing or mental health. This can have a significant impact on day to day life; our sleep, relationships, concentration, productivity and appetite.

Individual therapy is available for emotional and mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, eating and sleep problems.

Therapy is also available for a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties in children and young people

Benefits of the Therapy:

Psychological assessment and therapy can help you to make sense of experiences, identify factors which may be leading to difficulties and develop new skills for coping.

As a Clinical Psychologist I am able to use an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic approaches to best meet your needs. Therapeutic approaches used include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.

How it Works:

I offer a non-judgemental, compassionate therapeutic space.

I am trained to assess and support a range of mental health difficulties. I gather an understanding of one’s difficulties, where they stem from, how they are triggered and what keeps the difficulties going. Through this understanding, we can work together to identify different ways of being, and how to feel less trapped in our cycles of thoughts and behaviours.

I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, with clear theoretical underpinnings and a research evidence base. I am trained to make use of current research findings and NICE guidance (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence) to inform individualised treatment plans.

What Happens in a Session:

Following a phone conversation, your first meeting will be a 90 minute assessment appointment in which we will talk through some of the difficulties and concerns you may have. You will be asked questions in order to gain a better sense of your experiences. These will include questions around your day to day life, the impact of any difficulties you are experiencing and how you are currently managing, including the exploration of significant experiences and key relationships in your life.

For children and teenagers it is often helpful to meet jointly initially to get a sense of everyone’s perspective. For parents, you will be asked some questions around your child’s early development and experiences. If your child feels able, we may spend some time alone to further understand their difficulties and experiences.

By the end of the session, a developing psychological understanding will be shared with you and we can think together about a treatment plan. Following the assessment, an assessment report will be written up for you. It is recommended that this is shared with your GP.

Further sessions will be negotiated, but are typically held on a weekly basis. Dependent on your goals, the number of recommended sessions may vary considerably, but will be discussed and reviewed on a regular basis. Most people find an average of 6 sessions very useful.

Your first appointment will be a 90 minute assessment, subsequent sessions will be approximately 50 minutes.
