naturopathic nutrition - Claudina Caaveiro

Naturopathic Nutrition is a holistic, individual-centred approach to restoring health, emphasising the use of whole foods as medicine, as Hippocrates said ‘Let food be thy medicine, and medicine by thy food’. It also recognises the important and necessary part that both emotional and mental factors play in the balance of good health.

Benefits of therapy

  • Provides natural solutions to suit your specific health problems
  • Helps you understand why your body is out of balance and how you can regain control of your health
  • Enables you to achieve optimum health and wellbeing
  • Equips you with a tailor-made nutritional programme that suits your food preferences, lifestyle and health needs
  • Uses supplements purposefully, ensuring you know which ones you actually need

How it works

Firmly based in scientific evidence, Naturopathic Nutrition looks to rectify the underlying cause of illness rather than simply treating symptoms, working on the principle that illness occurs when the natural equilibrium of the body becomes out of balance. It can be used to treat a particular condition or when you just want to feel better and improve your general sense of well-being and vitality

What happens in a session?

Initial Consultation

Prior to your first session you will be sent a health questionnaire to complete and return.  This is the fact finding bit and includes detailed questions about your general health, current symptoms, lifestyle, family and medical history. You will also be asked to complete a 3 day food diary, warts and all!
Providing this information beforehand allows for the initial consultation to focus on helping you make sense of your current health picture and understand what steps you can take towards greater wellbeing. The aim is to create a plan that is appropriate to your needs, budget and achievable within your lifestyle.

Follow-up Sessions

These are a great way to gain ongoing support and guidance. It may be that once you make changes to your diet, that other issues arise that were masked under the initial condition and a follow up is necessary to address these. It can be useful after having time to digest what you learnt at your initial consultation, to have an opportunity to look at what is working well and what may need adjusting.  Once you start to make changes and put things into practice, more questions may arise or a thirst to learn more arises. It’s worth remembering that it might not be a follow up consultation that you need, but maybe a workshop or course that includes taster sessions, practical demonstrations and an opportunity to learn more in a group environment (see for information on upcoming events)
