Benefits of the Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a talking therapy that focuses on supporting clients to find solutions to difficulties in their lives, through understanding how their thoughts and behaviours affect the way they feel. By challenging difficult thoughts and experimenting with changes to behaviour, clients can find ways to achieve and maintain their own recovery. The website of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies provides helpful information on CBT.

Counselling is a talking therapy that focuses on providing a space in which clients can explore issues affecting them, without feeling judged or being told what to do. Counselling can help clients understand difficult emotions and come to terms with past events. More information about counselling can be found on the NHS UK website.

How it Works:

Appointments are offered to over 18s on a one-to-one basis.

Appointments are usually offered weekly, starting with an initial assessment appointment (90 minutes), which offers a chance to meet and make a decision jointly as to whether Claire will be able to help you reach your therapy goals.

The number of session you have is up to you and can be discussed with your therapist, but most clients have between 8 and 12 sessions.

 What Happens in a Session:

The focus of your sessions depends on what you want to get from your therapy. The emphasis will be on helping you to help yourself, and there will be no obligation to continue when you feel ready to end therapy.

Length of Sessions and Availability:

Appointments are usually 50 minutes in length, apart from initial assessment appointments, which last 90 minutes.

Claire currently offers appointments at the Self Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There is no charge for initial telephone consultations. Each appointment is charged at a rate of £50 per hour. Payment is usually made at the end of each session by cash or cheque. If you prefer to pay for more than one session at a time, courses of sessions can be booked in advance. Assessment sessions last 90 minutes and are charged at £65.
