Our beginners class is in non-denominational mindfulness meditation and all are welcome. Mindfulness is one of the hottest topics in the field of mental health today, and regular sitting shows measurable benefits in brainwave patterns within only a couple of months.
Basic outline of what is covered in the classes :
The importance of posture as a state of relaxed aligned sitting and why it is central to meditation.
- Present moment awareness - mindfulness
Explanation of the importance of this central idea of the ‘now’, its supportive role in helping us to move on and develop in our lives, and its central role in deep relaxation and the emergence of the natural self.
Why we use the breath as a simple way to focus our attention.
- Forgiveness and loving-kindness
Why this is central to finding peace. Clarifying that forgiveness is not incompatible with acting to protect oneself.
- Balance, relaxation and resilience.
Starting to find some physical flow and encouraging these three central principles to begin to come into play.
- Being yourself and having some fun.
Understanding that these are a set of tools to play with, develop and enjoy on your own terms, and that you are working to your own agenda and with your own set of issues, not anybody else’s.
